Sunrise Theater – Every town needs an indie theater to give couples a place to escape the heat and offer unique films that aren’t playing at the local megaplex. If you need a breather, cultural experience, or two-hour nap, the Sunrise is worth popping your head into.
Sandhills Horticultural Gardens – You can push this one to Sunday in case you don’t have time for it on your first day. Its nearly two dozen themed gardens are the reason this is a popular wedding location. Who doesn’t love to be surrounded by flowers on their special day? Make it your own with a quick tour.
Aberdeen Lake Park – Fishing, boating, picnicking, and a special playground centered on trains create the ultimate fallback if you have kids with energy, and a launching pad if you love to be on the water with a drink in your hand.
Weymouth Woods – There’s a reason “pines” comes up so frequently in the area. The nature preserve harbors woodpeckers, tree frogs, fox squirrels, and host of other birds, flowers, and ecological wildlife that’s lived in the area long before the breweries and restaurants. This is a great place for hiking and mountain biking.
Campbell House – Just “down the street” from Duncraig, this historic house built in 1903 is home of the Moore County Arts Council and on its surrounding 14 acre property is a wonderful park and playground.
Pinehurst Harness Track – The Track, nestled in the heart of historic Pinehurst, is the oldest continuously operating equine sports facility in the state. The 111-acre Harness Track has been a winter training center for Standardbred horses since 1915, including 10 champions. Now a harness racing landmark and home to an annual matinee, the Harness Track was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Here you will find both a piece of history and the home of champions.
AMTRACK Southern Pines – The train station located in Southern Pines, North Carolina, is served by Amtrak‘s Silver Star train. The street address is 235 Northwest Broad Street and is located in the heart of historic downtown Southern Pines. The station was originally built by a predecessor of the Seaboard Air Line Railway in 1898, renovated in 1948, and restored to its 1948 design in 2004. Raleigh, NC is one of the popular round-trip destinations from Southern Pines.
Shopping – the towns of Southern Pines, Pinehurst and Aberdeen have wonderfully restored historic centers loaded with shops of every type. Enjoy a stroll through these centers filled with history and enjoy some shopping at the same time.
Golf – There are 32 golf courses in the Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Aberdeen and Whispering Pines communities. If you’re a golfer, there’s a course here for you and all are within a 15 to 20-minute drive from Duncraig.
Tennis – Downtown Park, in the heart of Southern Pines, has courts available for public use by reservation.
First-Health Fitness Center – With more than 63,000 square feet, this facility in Pinehurst offers the region’s largest free-weight area, innovative group exercise, aquatic center, swimming lessons, children’s programs, nutrition services and massage therapy.
